All-Star Game
The All-Star game is a showcase of the NBA's best talents, taking place each year in February when roughly half of the NBA season has been played. The format is East against the West and the location changes each year.
The starting five of both conferences is determined by fan voting - fans have to pick two guards, two forwards and one center. The rest of the lineup is chosen by NBA coaches. Being elected as an All-Star is one of the highest honours for an NBA player.
Typically, the All-Star game features a lot of highlight reel plays and virtually no defense as the game is aimed at pleasing the crowd while avoiding serious injury. Only the closing minutes see both teams competing hard as neither side wants to lose.
The All-Star Game is part of All-Star Weekend, which also includes the Rookie-Sophomore Game, the Dunk Contest, the Three-Point-Contest, the Shooting Stars Challenge, the Skills Challenge and the Development League's All-Star Game.
In 2008, the East defeated the West 134-128 with LeBron James winning the MVP trophy. In the all-time record, the East leads the West 35-22.
