American football

American football is a game played by two teams of eleven players each on a rectangular field which is 100 yards long. Both teams try to get possession of the ball and advance it across the opponents goal line in a series of running or passing plays.

In the USA and Canada, this sport is simply know as football. In Australia and New Zealand it is called gridiron.

The teams' success is based on how many yards they accumulate or allow their opponents. An official NFL (National Football League) football field is a rectangle of 120 yards (110 m) lenght and 53 yards, 1 foot (49 m) width. Mostly, the field is covered with grass and set in an outdoor (open-air) stadium. Some fields are made of artificial turf, which you can find in many of the indoor stadiums.
