Karl Malone
Karl Malone was a basketball player for the NBA's Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Lakers. After 19 years, he retired in 2004 with the second-highest point total in NBA history (36,928) - trailing only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
A 6-9 power forward with an imposing physique, Malone redefined the position. Surprisingly quick and agile for his size, Malone teamed up with all-time assist leader John Stockton to make the pick-and-roll synonymous with Utah Jazz basketball.
Malone won the MVP in 1997 and 1999 - as the oldest player to win the award - and took his team to two consecutive finals berth in 1997 and 1998, losing both times to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.
Shortly flirting with retirement, Malone left the Jazz after 18 seasons in the summer of 2003 to join Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant and Gary Payton in Los Angeles to chase that elusive championship - a dream that remained unfulfilled when the Detroit Pistons dispatched of the Lakers in five games.
Karl Malone was a member of the Original Dream Team in 1992 and in 1996 was chosen as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History.
