Major League Soccer
Major League Soccer (MLS) is the highest level of play in North American professional soccer. There are 14 teams (13 from the US and one from Canada) competing in that soccer league.
Each team plays 30 matches per season, which usually runs from late March/early April until November. Besides facing every other team twice (home and away), which makes a total of 26 games, the other four matches are intra-conference games.
The MLS was founded on December 17, 1993, but it was not before 1996 for the first season with ten teams to be played.
The MLS will expand to 16 clubs by 2010, and there are already plans to expand to 18 teams by 2012.
