Detroit Red Wings: Mission completed

After blowing two matchpoints in Game 4 and 5, the Detroit Red Wings finally beat the Dallas Stars yesterday in Game 6 to win the NHL Western Conference finals 4-2.

With their victory in that away match, the team of Head Coach Mike Babcock reaches the Stanley Cup finals against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
With a total of 115 points in the Western Conference Central Division, Detroit had already been the best team of the regular season. The Penguins reached 102 points and the 2nd place behind the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference.
It’s the first time in six years for the Red Wings to reach the Stanley Cup finals. But reaching it could be a good omen for them: In 2002, Detroit won its 10th title again the Carolina Hurricanes. Pittsburgh won their last Stanley Cup in 1992, defeating the Chicago Blackhawks in a 4-0 series.

But back to the Detroit-Dallas match, at least for a quick look to the course of the game.
It didn’t take any longer than four minutes for the Red Wings to take the lead at the American Airlines Center. Kris Draper scored for Detroit.
Still in the first third, Pavel Datsyuk und Dallas Drake rose the score to 3-0, before Henrik Zetterberg scored the fourth goal in the second third. Stephane Robidas was the only scorer for the Stars yesterday.

Game 1 will be played in Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena on Saturday, May 24.
