Mauresmo and coach split
French tennis player Amélie Mauresmo announced that she has split with her longtime coach Loïc Courteau. Both started their cooperation in 2002.
With Courteau on her side, Mauresmo became the World’s No. 1 in 2004 and won the Year End Championships 2005 as well as two Grand Slam titles, the Australian Open and Wimbledon 2006.
Over the last two years, Mauresmo had to face many difficulties due to numerous injuries and. She therefore chose to find a different way to restart herself now, and Courteau agrees: "I think that this is the right moment to prepare the 2009 season. One knows each other a lot, one installed oneself in a type of comfort and of security which was maybe necessary to break. This is simply to try to have a psychological effect and to break the routine."
The Frenchwoman will announce her new team within the next two weeks.
