The Lakers' rush to the finals

Despite leading the Los Angeles Lakers by 17 points temporary, the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs blew all chances to reach the playoff finals again.

The Lakers won the best-of-seven Western Conference series 4-1, defeating the Spurs 100-92 on Thursday.

Once more, it was Kobe Bryant to decide the match for L.A. The shooting guard scored 39 points, while Spanish center Pau Gasol earned 12 points and 19 rebounds.

Tony Parker scored 23 points for San Antonio, Tim Duncan 19 and 15 rebounds, but shooting guard Manu Ginobili from Argentina had an off-day, scoring only nine points.

Whom the Lakers are going to face in the finals is not yet decided. The Boston Celtics are currently leading the Eastern Conference series against the Detroit Pistons 3-2.
