The sun(s) could shine brighter with Terry Porter
Terry Porter was hired for his second head coach job this weekend in Phoenix, ending the Sun’s week-long search for a successor to Mike D’Antoni. He had left the club in May after they were eliminated in the first playoff round by the San Antonio Spurs and signed with the New York Knicks.
The Phoenix Suns' General Manager, Steve Kerr, talked about an "impressive list of candidates" when announcing that Porter had been chosen.
One important argument that spoke in his favor was the former professional basketball player’s experience as a head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks from 2003 until 2005, who made the NBA playoffs in his first year. In addition to that, the 45 years old joined the Detroit Pistons staff as an assistant coach for the 2006-07 season.
Besides, this news means that Porter won’t be an option for the Pistons who are searching a new head coach themselves any longer.
Porter is supposed to sign a three-year deal worth about US-$ 7 million and will become the seventh coach since 1993 – the year the Suns made their last final appearance - in Phoenix.
