Thrilling Tampa showdown sees Steelers as record champions
They finally did it: The Pittsburgh Steelers won the Super Bowl for the sixth time last night in Tampa, Florida and are now the record championa of the National Football League (NFL).
But the match against the Arizona Cardinals turned out to be much more thrilling than most of the 65,000 fans thought before: The Steelers secured the title not earlier than 35 seconds before the end of the game.
With two touchdowns in the last quarter, the Cardinals’ quarterback Kurt Warner seemed to become the man of the match for his team, when Arizona lead 23-20, two and a half minutes before the end. Then, 30 seconds before the end, the favorites stroke back: Ben Roethlisberger threw the ball to Santonio Holmes – Touchdown – 27-23. Afterwards, Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin smiled proudly: "A Steelers match always lasts 60 minutes!"
More than 800 million spectators in 210 countries followed the dramatic match-up in front of their TVs.
