Tribute to a doubles pairing

One thing that makes racquet sports so unique is the fact that doubles matches can be played there.

No matter if in Badminton, Table Tennis or Tennis: doubles matches are always something very special. And so are doubles players!

Remember the reigning women’s doubles team on the WTA tour in the 1990s, Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva? Between 1992 and 1997, those two crazy young ladies from Puerto Rico and Belarus won not less than 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together.
That’s absolutely impressive, but it’s not the only thing one remembers when thinking of Fernandez and Zvereva.

They celebrated real tennis shows on court, they let every single spectator feel the fun they had out there. Fernandez/Zvereva were the top seller for every tournament at that time – no matter in which city, no matter in which country. They made every tennis court their home, and that’s why the fans around the world could easily identify with these two sportswomen.

About ten years after they played their last official doubles match together, it’s time to say “Thank you”. Thank you for all the fun we had with you on and off the courts, for all the hilarious speeches during the numerous award ceremonies you attended and last but not least for the great sport you presented to us, the audience.

Never saw them - seems as if I really missed something.
