Punt

A punt in Football occurs when a player drops the ball and kicks it downfield towards an opponent's end zone. These are most often seen when time is running out in the game in final down in an attempt to close the distance between the players and the goal. Of course, then the ball changes hands if the distance to the goal is too great and no goal is scored, but it closes the gap and gives the players an extra edge.
