Rookie of the Year
The Rookie of the Year award is given each year to a professional league's best first-year player.
In the NBA, the Eddie Gottlieb trophy for the top rookie has been awarded since the 1952-53 season. Many Hall of Fame players won the award to start their career, including Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan and Shaquille O'Neal.
The reigning Rookie of the Year is the Portland Trailblazers' Brandon Roy.
