Steve Nash
Steve Nash is a basketball player for the NBA's Phoenix Suns. The 6-3 point guard is one of the most creative and prolific playmakers in the sport and earned two consecutive MVP awards (2005, 2006) for his exploits.
Nash, a Canadian born in South Africa, started his career backing up fellow star point guards Kevin Johnson and Jason Kidd in Phoenix. His career kick-started when in 1998 he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks where he formed a high-scoring trio with Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Finley.
When Dallas owner Mark Cuban refused to equal the Suns' contract offer in 2004, Nash returned to the team that drafted him in 1996. Playing an unusual and entertaining up-tempo style that won many fans outside of Arizona, Nash led the team to a 62-20 record averaging a league-best 11.5 assists. At season's end, Nash was named MVP - a feat he repeated the following year.
So far, however, and in spite of Nash's brilliance, the Suns have not been able to disprove the notion that defense wins championships. Nash is an outspoken athlete who is not afraid to comment on issues beyond basketball. He is also known as a very good soccer player.
