Super Bowl
The Super Bowl is the championship game of the National Football League (NFL). The game and its complementing events constitute Super Bowl Sunday. Many popular singers and musicians have performed during the Super Bowl's pre-game and halftime ceremonies. Over the years, Super Bowl Sunday has become the most-watched television broadcast of the year in the USA.
[edit] History
As part of an agreement between the NFL and its younger antagonist, the American Football League (AFL), the Super Bowl was first played on January 15, 1967. The agreement specified that each league's championship team would play each other in an "AFL-NFL World Championship Game". The Super Bowl became the NFL’s championship game after both leagues fused in 1970. It’s now played as the championship game between the champions of the NFL’s two conferences: the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC).
To identify each Super Bowl match, there are used Roman numerals, rather than the year it was held. That’s because the NFL season extends beyond New Year's Eve. This means, that for example the winners of Super Bowl XLI, the Indianapolis Colts, are the champions of the 2006 season, although the championship game was played in February 2007.
[edit] Championship game 2008
The Super Bowl XLII is held on February 3, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. EST. It’s taking place in the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The New York Giants face the New England Patriots. In the semis, the underdogs from New York defeated the Green Bay Packers 23-20 in overtime. The New England Patriots won against the San Diego Chargers 21-12.
