Tennis

Tennis is a ball game that can be played by two or four players. A match is called "singles" when it is played between two and "doubles" when it is played between four players. Object of the game is to score points by hitting the ball over the net in such a way that it cannot be returned back by the opponent properly. Tennis is played as best-of-three (first to win two sets) or best-of-five (first to win three sets) matches.

The four main types of court surfaces to play tennis on are clay, grass, hard and carpet.

A tennis court is 78 feet (23,77 meter) long and 27 feet (8,23 meter) wide (for singles). For doubles, the courts width is 36 feet (10,97 meter). The baselines border the court on the short sides while the sidelines border it on the long sides. The court is divided in two halfs by a net of 3 feet (0,914 meter) height.
