Youri Djorkaeff

Youri Djorkaeff (*March 9, 1968 in Lyon, France) is a former French soccer player. Youri’s mother comes from Armenia. His father Jean "Tchoucki" Djorkaeff was a former international soccer player for France himself, participating in the 1966 FIFA World Cup.

The midfielder started his career at FC Grenoble in 1984. In 1989, he moved to Racing Strasbourg. Only one year later, AS Monaco signed with Djorkaeff. His last station in France was Paris Saint-Germain, where he played from 1995 to 1996 and won the Cup Winners’ Cup.


Djorkaeff transferred to F.C. Internazionale Milano (Italy) then and won the UEFA Cup there. In 1999, he went over to Germany and played for 1. FC Kaiserslautern until 2002. He signed with English clubs Bolton Wanderers (2002-2004) and Blackburn Rovers (2004), before finally playing for the New York MetroStars from 2005 to 2006 and retiring from professional soccer in October 2006.


Djorkaeff made his debut to the French national team in 1993, accumulating a total of 82 caps and 28 goals for France until 2002. Besides playing in the winning French team at the 1998 FIFA Wolrd Cup, the 2000 UEFA Euro and the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup, he participated in UEFA Euro 1996 and FIFA World Cup 2002 for his country.
